The debate between which GPU is best has been around for a long time. And, two of the main names in this debate are the Nvidia GPU and the AMD GPU. Both of these cards have their specialties but let’s try to find out what is the best among the two in 2020.
Price and Performance
It’s hard to make compare two models that have a different price tag for performance. Therefore we should look at the value ranges of the GPU and compare their performance.
When you look at the budget models the Nvidia has a better yield. The Nvidia models that come at a cheap price are the GTX 1650 at $159 and GTX 1660 at $229. And, the AMD models are the RX 5500 XT series where the RX 5500 XT 4GB comes at $169 while the 8GB cost $199. The problem with the AMD cheap models is that although the price range between them and Nvidia is close the performance isn’t. The RX 5500 XT series is on par with the GTX 1650 which costs less than both AMD GPUs and is far inferior to the GTX.
Unlike the budget models, the mid-range AMD GPUs put up a tough fight with Nvidia models. The AMD models at this range are RX 5600 XT at $279 and RX 5700 XT at $399. Unlike AMD, Nividia gives a wide range of models with different price tags to select from. With the GTX 1660 Ti at $279, the RTX 2060 at $349, RTX 2060 Super at $399 and the RTX 2070 Super at $499. When you compare the AMS’s RX 5600 XT it works better than Nvidia’s model at the same price. Also, it is on par with Nvidia’s RTX 2060 which costs $70 more. Also, the RX 5700 XT of AMD can outperform any mid-range GPU Nvidia puts out even though it cost about $100 less. So if you are looking for a GPU in the range of $250-$500 your best bet is to go with the AMD models.
High Range Models
When it comes to performance to price value the Nivida GPUs take the cake. They have better cooling systems, faster, and have better power efficiency. The High-end Nvidia models are the RTX 2080 Ti at $1,199.00 and the RTX 2080 Super at $699. The AMD brand still hasn’t put out any models that can hang with the high-end models the Nivida has. But they plan on coming out with the Big Navi which is their answer to high-end GPUs.
One of the main factors you have to look at when comparing these two GPUs is power consumption. Although AMD has come out with new methods to combat their high power consumption they are still behind Nvidia. The medium-range AMD GPUs have a power consumption comparable to high-end models of Nivida. So unless AMD comes out with better power efficiency GPU with Big Navi, Nvidia is a clear winner in this sector.
In conclusion, Nvidia has the better lower-end GPUs that are comparatively powerful and cheap. While AMD has the best medium-range GPUs in the market which are way cheaper than the Nvidia equivalents. The high-end market is all owned by Nvidia GPUs.
